What are Environmental Management Plans? - Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) form an important part of modern development practice and an integral part of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process. In the general development sphere, EMPs provide a practical management tool covering the projects operations in their entirety, outlining;

  1. The background and philosophy of the project.
  2. The objectives of the project.
  3. The baseline ecological status.
  4. The guidelines for the environmentally sound development and management of the project.
  5. Details of all relevant policy.
  6. Local involvement and social ramifications of the project.
  7. The financial and logistical implications of the development options.

Our Service - ESA can provide a specifically designed Environmental Management Plan for each of our customers, incorporating all of the above objectives. Within these outlined objectives we cover:

  • the pre-construction phase, construction and the operation of the project, detailing factors such as: -
  • the use of local and imported materials
  • processing of solid and liquid waste
  • storage of potentially damaging ecological pollutants
  • land-use zones around the project
  • the impact of road networks and the spatial design and layout of the projects infrastructure

All of these factors are analysed in terms of their potential ecological impact, with details of mitigating actions to assist with the running of the project.

We offer a special graphic design service using CAD application that can graphically illustrate the spatial layout of the project to sub-meter accuracy to assist with long-term maintenance.

The projects infrastructure can be spatially presented within the greater context of the surrounding ecosystem using GIS and remote sensing technology, providing a detailed mapping service.

ESA strives to provide a holistic environmental background to each individual project, incorporating baseline ecological survey data and a desktop appraisal of the region to ensure that each project is developed in harmony with its local environmental setting.

We outline a long-term ecological monitoring programme and operational guidelines to ensure that the project operates in an environmentally sound manner and within internationally recognised standards. Towards these objectives, we provide an Environmental Auditing service, by registered auditors, following the internationally recognised ISO 14001:2004 standards.

Environmental Management Plans are incorporated into EIAs, where they form a vital part of the long-term management and impact mitigation process.

  • The specific actions or impacts to be managed to limit detrimental environmental impact, who will manage them.
  • The objectives and target goals to mitigate each impact.
  • The specific actions required to achieve the objectives and targets.
  • Those responsible for achieving these targets.
  • The resources required to reach the management objectives.
  • The schedule of operations.
  • Monitoring of the project until completion.
