ESA offers an ecological monitoring service to the game and beef ranching industry. This service is tailor made to suit the needs and constraints of each customer, while aimed to assist the owner’s veldt management and improve ranch productivity.

Our Service - Using the extensive experience of ESA's directors in herbivore research and vegetation surveys, ESA can offer the ranching industry a comprehensive veldt quality assessment and management service.

  • We conduct habitat surveys to determine the carrying capacities of respective ranches, while offering advice as to how to improve the productivity of any ranch through modern management techniques. Habitat assessment is undertaken by ground surveys and GIS, remote sensing techniques to quantify the proportional availability and quality of each respective technique, providing a detailed appraisal of the ranches potential productivity.
  • We conduct ground and aerial surveys to determine population estimates and distributions. Using the latest in GIS software techniques we can visualise your habitat and animal distribution data, producing interactive, downloadable reports, which can be accessed through this website. We also use the latest in population modelling software to predict trends in cattle and / or wildlife stock numbers, helping you to effectively plan for and manage your stock.

As part of our service to the game and beef industries we conduct and offer the following services:

  • Animal game counts to produce information on the population dynamics of the wildlife species, allowing us to inform the concessionaire of its health and long-term viability.
  • Vegetation surveys to look at the carrying capacity of the region and to suggest what game there should be in the area and how to manage and conserve the habitat.
  • Veldt maintenance, through fire control and alien species removal.
  • Mapping of the region using GIS and remote sensing software to provide you with a detailed map of the habitats, road networks and infrastructure within the concession.
