ESA offers an ecological monitoring service to the photographic and hunting safari industry. This service is tailor made to suit the needs and constraints of each customer, while aimed to improve the concessionaires understanding of the inhabitant wildlife populations and veldt condition.

Our Service - The directors of ESA have extensive experience in developing and conducting wildlife and habitat monitoring surveys. We understand the balance that is required between improving local knowledge of the environment and compromising the guests experience while in the concession. As such, we endeavour to develop practical survey methods that produce safe, reliable, efficient and cost-effective procedures to obtain unbiased estimates of populations and trends in large areas.

  • Animal game counts to produce information on the population dynamics of the wildlife species, allowing us to inform the concessionaire of its health and long-term viability.
  • Vegetation surveys to look at the carrying capacity of the region and to suggest what game there should be in the area and how to manage and conserve the habitat.
  • Veldt maintenance, through fire control and alien species removal.
  • Mapping of the concession using GIS and remote sensing software to provide you with a detailed map of the habitats, road networks and infrastructure within the concession.

How it helps you - In the modern era of safaris, where enormous investment is placed into each concession and camp, an improved knowledge base of the local environmental dynamics serves to improve the understanding of the concessions wildlife product. Long-term investment in camps should be partnered with long-term modelling and a projection of the local environment to help secure that investment.
